Lot 2868
1853. Arms of Calif Half Dollar. . BG-435, Low Rarity 5. PCGS graded MS-65. Encased in PCGS holder 60060437. Well struck with reflective surfaces. Bright yellow gold with strong luster and a nuance of deeper golden shading. Somewhat prooflike -- not in a classic sense, but unbelievably close nonetheless. A scarce and popular variety that is often found holed, when found at all. Technically much rarer than its Rarity-5+ listing infers, as demand for the Arms of California issue far exceeds the known offerings of the variety. Much finer than Texas:4343, Lee:83, and Heifetz:78 (to name just a few important pieces that don't quite measure up to the present gem). One of the classic design types of the series, and a piece that will see a high degree of bidding activity when specialists and type collectors alike go head to head for "top honors" on this desirable specimen. Pop 3; 1 in MS66. (PCGS # 10471) .
Estimated Value $20,000 - 25,000.
